Yes, it's been too long since my last post. Life simply has a way of distracting a person from recording important moments for posterity. Not to mention work, kids, travel, family and yes, the remodel. I'm resolved to remedy the situation this weekend. There will be a post soon on the construction, but I wanted to start with an update on some of the other things keeping us busy.
Today is all about Evan.
The last six weeks have been busy ones for Evan. He started 3rd grade, had braces put on his top teeth, and has set his sights on being a goal keeper for his soccer team (adding a 3rd practice each week in addition to the Saturday game). He and Rose have also been sharing a small bedroom since September and while they are generally okay with it, Evan has announced that he's really looking forward to having his own space again. Aren't we all . . .
Evan's braces have been a source of interest for all of his friends. Added to his glasses, hearing aids and long hair, it's tough to see him under all that "stuff." That's okay with him, though -- especially since he received what to him is the ultimate compliment: that he looks like a teenager. He's developing the 'tude to match. While we don't argue about the length of his hair, we clash over the fact that it must be washed -- along with the rest of his body -- and combed at least three times a week. "Ah, mom!!!"
This morning he woke up and almost immediately set about "inventing" something (another favorite past time). Yogurt containers, plastic bottles and a lot of tape helped to create his masterpiece, which he proudly shows in this video:

The excitement continued to build after the video as Evan explained things to his dad. The culminating moment came when he went to demonstrate how it works and promptly spilled water all over the floor as the tape didn't hold.
Back to the drawing board . . .
